Q:WHO RUNS QUEST HOUSE?

A: Quest House is primarily organized by Meiko Xavier, a transmasculine individual that has been transitioning for 14 years, and went through this surgically assisted ceremony himself in 2016.

Q: IS QUEST HOUSE A SPACE FOR ALL TRANS FOLKS TO RECOVER POST OP?

A: We offer lodging to those individuals somewhere along the transmasculine spectrum who are having lower surgery – specifically phalloplasty and metoidioplasty.

Q: HOW DOES THE SLIDING SCALE WORK? DO I HAVE TO SHOW PROOF OF INCOME TO QUALIFY FOR THE LOWER END OF THE SCALE?

A: Our sliding scale is $75-$125 per bedroom. Lodgers self-select an amount along the scale as a nightly rate. Additional fees include 5% which we pay to our fiscal sponsorship on all income, and 5% platform fee for any non-check payments (Flipcause). If you are in need of extra assistance such as caretaking, transportation, or meal prep, please visit our CARETAKING page for more information.

Q: DO YOU OFFER SCHOLARSHIPS?

A: Currently we are only able to offer a sliding scale, this ends up being less than many other lodging options in The Bay Area, especially with all the donated extras (medical supplies, assistive devices, and some free food). One of our 2019 goals is to create a quarterly scholarship fund that folks can apply for.

Q: CAN I BRING MY PET WITH ME?

A: We LOVE animals! However, currently we can only accommodate service animals.

Q: CAN I BRING SOMEONE WITH ME TO HELP ME DURING MY RECOVERY?

A: Yes! Each bedroom has 2 beds and we encourage folks to bring their own support person with them.

Q: AM I REQUIRED TO HAVE A CARETAKER IN ORDER TO STAY @ QUEST HOUSE?

A: All guests having stage 1 phallo or stage 2 phallo w/ Kaiser must arrange for a caretaker to be with them for a minimum of 2 weeks following their discharge from the hospital. Meta folks need a caretaker for a minimum of 1 week. Your support person can be a partner, friend, family member, or another caretaker that we help identify for you. Quest House also collaborates with T4T Caregiving, a trans-run business that provides caretaking services to post-op folks.

Q: ARE THE MEDICAL SUPPLIES IN THE HOUSE FREE?

A: Yes! Our medical supplies have been generously donated by previous guests, as well as folks who haven’t stay with us, but have had surgery in the area and wanted their extra supplies to go to folks who are next in line.

Q: DO I NEED TO BRING ANY MEDICAL SUPPLIES SINCE THERE IS A WHOLE CLOSET FULL OF THEM?

A: We regularly maintain an Amazon List of Suggested Medical Supplies. Half of the list contents are usually just the OTC’s that your doctor tells you to take). Guests are by no means obligated to purchase the suggested items – this is just a complimentary service that we offer in order to support guests in only buying what they need.
